| Gite Maison des Vignerons is one of the older houses in the village and comprises of 2 double bedroom, and one twin room; plus a cot is available. Montpellier The university town of Montpellier is one of the France's most thriving and dynamic cities and the largest city of the region. Attractions include a wide central square, the Place de la Comedie, the Polygon (a smart new shopping complex), a fine old quarter, the Arc de Triomphe and the Jardin des Plantes, which is the oldest botanical garden in France. Béziers The large town of Béziers has a host of cultural events throughout the summer and is a haven for history buffs with its dominating cathedral and stories of the Cathars. There are dozens of restaurants and pavement cafés to choose from, an unbelievable flower market and superb food market. Perpignan Perpignan is a pleasant southerly city with palms and plane trees lining it's promenade and lies about 1 ¼ hours away from Autignac. Narbonne A quiet town with one of the tallest gothic cathedrals in France. Carcassone Carcassone can be reached in about 1 ¼ hours and is Europe's largest medieval fortress and one of the best preserved. Horse drawn carriages provide guided tours or you can explore on your own. Nimes The city of Nimes, with its perfectly preserved Roman arena is the best example of a Roman city outside Italy. A few kilometers away is the Pont du Gard - a spectacular Roman aqueduct spanning the River Gardan. Lac Salagou A beautiful lake which makes a great day out for the family. The water is a lovely temperature in the summer and pedaloes, boats and windsurfs can be hired. Canal du Midi The Canal du Midi, constructed 1666 runs for 235km through the region and it's 100 locks link the Mediterranean to the Atlantic. The towpaths offer superb cycling and walking and you can hire a boat or take a cruise between various centres from Sete to Carcassone. Beaches Valras Plage is the nearest beach to Autignac (30 mins). North-East of Valras, Serignan is also a popular choice. |
