La Platriere is a recently converted farmhouse set within 3 acres of garden which has a large swimming pool, petanque court, and childrens play area. The property is on top of a hill and has stunning views of the rural countryside. Inside there are 6 very comfortably furnished bedrooms, each with its own private en-suites. All offer superb views and complimentary coffee/tea facilities. We have a large family bedroom which can easily sleep up to 5, we also have 4 double/twin-bedded rooms and 1 single room. Downstairs guests can enjoy the comfortable salon with satelite tv, dvd player, music centre, and open wood burner during the cooler months. Breakfast and evening meals are served either outside on the sun terrace or in the dining room. The house is fully central heated.

Things to see and do in the area

The Auvergne is a paradise of space, quiet and peaceful, unspolt by tourism, yet plenty to see and do. We are situated on the edge of the Troncais Forest in the department of Allier in the Auvergne region. The forest is renowned for being the largest oak plantation in Europe, some of the oaks dating back 300years. The forest also provides the perfect environment for cycling tracks and horseriding, and within its depths there are many lakes, large and small, ideal for swimming, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. The nearest of these is just 5km away from La Platriere, a huge 11 hectare lake with beaches, waterslides, pedalo boats and sailing. Surrounding Lurcy-Levis, our nearest town at 4kms, are numerous medieval villages many with chateaux and romanisqe churches. During summer months three are medieval displays and fetes in the castles and villages. We are also close to the thermal spa baths at Bourbon L'Archambault, where you can take to the waters and relax and be pampered. Locally there is plenty of opportunities for walking, birdwatching, cycling, horseriding, fishing and just being. There are vineyards to visit and many cheeses to taste and several very good restaurants. Further south, about an hours drive, you can discover the volcanoes of Auvergne and the Massif Central. Here you can go hot air ballooning, absail or paraglide. For the less active you can visit Vulcania (www.vulcania.com) or volcan de Lemptegy, (www.auvergne-volcan.com)or take the children for a day out at Le Pal (www.lepal.com).

There are many summer brocantes and fetes held weekly throughout the region. Lurcy-Levis hosts the international Folklore Festival during the week of 18-24 June 2007. We are also near the borders of the Nievre in Burgundy, so ideally placed for those who follow motorsports. We are 17 miles (28kms) from the formula one racing circuit at Magny-cours so check out their website for dates throughout the year (http://www.magnyf1.com). Also there is a ciruit in Lurcy-Levis which holds various events, ie. world dragster event. contact us for dates.
